I once fell a victim of a Nigerian check scam. I was 20 years old, greedy, and stupid. I threw 10k out the window, just like that. That said, I would much rather learn that lesson at age 20 than at age 40 when wife, children, career are on the line. I think a lot of these errors on this thread could be interpreted the same way. Better to learn once and remember than not to learn at all.
Going to college right after high school. I went off to college at age 18, because that’s what you do after high school, right? I had no clue what I wanted to study. Spent 7 years studying random liberal arts fields. Finally left school because I had no set goal and saw how many student loans I had already taken out. 18-year-old me was not very smart about money.
