In order to know if adoption is the best for your child, you really to check yourself thoroughly; educate yourself- there are multiple types of adoption, some of which allow you a fair amount of access to your child throughout his/her life and some of which make it very difficult for you to have any involvement. Ask yourself if you really want to parent a child. Are you ready for sleepless nights, teething, temper tantrums, homework, saying no to things you want to do because they’re not in your child’s best interest, having your plans changed at the last minute because the babysitter flakes out or your child spikes a fever, hormones, teenage drama, etc, etc? Are you ready for that? Can you handle that without making your child pay emotionally? It’s a sign of maturity to admit that your answer is no and there are thousands of people out there seeking the opportunity to experience those very things. Do you have family support? How deep does your support go? Is Grandma always available in a pinch or only if she doesn’t have to work or have a date herself? Is the birth father’s family willing to step up as well. all these have to be in great consideration when you are considering adoption.
