In my early years of working, I developed a chronic cough. I finally realized it was because another employee smoked all day around me. I asked him to go outside to smoke, and my cough cleared up almost immediately. Just after that, the company owner banned smoking from the building. Even he went outside to smoke. I get a whiff of cigarettes sometimes when I’m driving, and the driver ahead of me is smoking. For some, working is about their career and passion and for some others it might be a difficult choice, given they have to manage the house, children and work. But, I think it’s very important that you keep working after marriage and even after having kids. On the long run, your husband, kids and the house will be a part of you but the career is the only thing that is personal to you. Kids will grow to be independent and eventually seek their own future. Only in the end you will realise how much you have lost giving up your career. It’s not just about the money and the financial independence but it’s about doing something you like and which you are capable of. It gives you immense self confidence. Once you stop working, you stop there. There will be slow or no growth in happenings around you. Kids will outsmart you saying you don’t know about current trends and they are right. I think it’s important to build a career inspite of being rich or poor, married or unmarried, kids or no kids etc. It gives you a boost, an immense confidence and eventually in the long run, a purpose. Do not lose that purpose.
