I resumed a new role, so far I’ve noticed my immediate boss smokes every time. He has a little shisha pen he carries with him every now and then.

Smoking in the workplace is quite a controversial topic and one that can be argued extensively. On one side, smokers should have the right to smoke while at work but on the other, non-smokers should not have their health put at risk because of it. As smoking is, of course, a health hazard, legislations have been put in place to protect those that don’t indulge in the habit and those that do, too. Smoking on work premises is usually not allowed, unless it’s in a smoking-permitted zone that’s usually located outside the building.
In my early years of working, I developed a chronic cough. I finally realized it was because another employee smoked all day around me. I asked him to go outside to smoke, and my cough cleared up almost immediately. Just after that, the company owner banned smoking from the building. Even he went outside to smoke. I get a whiff of cigarettes sometimes when I’m driving, and the driver ahead of me is smoking. One of the greatest social advances in our modern world is the banning of cigarettes from workplace buildings. Whoever thought of that, thank you!
