There is no such thing as global citizenship, in so far as there is no global government which can be considered a sovereign state in which one attains citizenship. People are citizens or subjects of actual nation-states, not an abstract nation-state concept called “the world”. You can be an American, Australian, or Indian citizen. You cannot be a world citizen. You can be a world traveler, a stateless individual, a person who holds multiple citizenships, or someone who believes belonging to any specific nation-state is a ridiculous notion, but in reality you still cannot be a so-called world citizen.
Citizen of the world is the idea that all people have responsibilities to the world rather than just their country and immediate community. Citizenship by investment programmes offer the opportunity to legally acquire a new nationality in return for an investment in the economy of the host country. Such programmes confer citizenship status without causing any major disruptions to an investor’s life, provided they pass all the due diligence checks first, make a qualifying investment and provide all the correct documentation.
