This can be translated in many ways— will I pay for my mom’s lifestyle? Yes. Will I sponsor my dad’s lifestyle? Yes. My wife or children? Yes. You see, it all depends on the situation and perspective. When you’re told not sponsor the lifestyle of others, you’re simply being told not to make silly financial mistakes that involves you paying for a person’s lifestyle, a lifestyle they cannot afford for themselves. If they can afford it, they wouldn’t need an external body to pay for it.
Financing other people’s lifestyle is a matter of choice, it has nothing to do with poor or good financial decision (as the other person put). When you decide to finance whatever lifestyle of a particular person, you’re doing so simply because you wish to. There are family members that finance the education of their loved ones, holiday travels and so on. Is that bad money decision?
