It means to be “awake” to systemic injustice. I always thought it was a good word for capturing that feeling when you start to see systems for what they really are. Because once you see it, it becomes impossible not to see, like waking up from a dream to see how things really are.
Woke really means nothing nowadays. Initially, it means inserting minorities and left-wing politics haphazardly in the entertainment industry for no reason and also demonizing innocent conservatives and right-wingers as bigots and idiots. “Woke” as a word has been abused by the actual bigots, alt-right and outrage culture so much, it practically lost its meaning.
