IMO, I feel alcohol is more damaging and has the worst effects but marijuana is still okay. So why is alcohol legal but not marijuana?

Marijuana is actually legal in some places but heavily taxed. If weed can be used for medical purposes, then I have no idea why it isn’t legal. I’m from New Jersey and it was recently legalized and I know that other states have legalized it, so hopefully weed will be legal in all states soon.
Marijuana does have negative health effects on those who get into it at a younger age. That being said, it would make sense to legalize it, given that it is mostly harmless and most people are already using it. However, I don’t think I want to walk around smelling like pot everywhere. And I don’t want to interact with people who are constantly stoned. So I’m on the fence about it.
