I’ve never met someone addicted to alcohol/marijuana/drugs admit they’re actually addicted to those substances. Why?

An addict’s entire existence revolves around their next hit. They will do anything to avoid the feeling of withdrawal. To protect themselves from realizing the harm their actions are causing to themselves and to others, and to provide rationalization for their next hit, they convince themselves of the lies they repeat. They can tell themselves they can stop anytime they wish to stop, that they’re not addicted and can live without the substance, big fat lie. This is due to the fact that they can’t stop when they want to and that they feel compelled to continue abusing substances despite the negative consequences to their health, well-being, and relationships.
Addicts would never know they’ve become addicted to a substance until it gets totally out of hands, then it dawn on them such substance has probably ruined them. Addicts never accept they’re addicts, they’re often so edgy, ready to attack like everyone’s against them. They are also quick to let you know there are no real dangers to using whatever substance they’re using and to let you know they can control themselves. It’s not always like that.
