Self isolation is when a person removes themself from a group and stay all alone, avoiding the company of other people. Self isolation is one of the symptoms of ptsd in a person. It is very likely to see people go into self isolation when they just experienced or passed through something terrible, a scarring experience. When they suffer from the trauma from this experience, it may cause them to self isolate.
Those who suffer from PTSD due to a trauma caused by other people might find solace in isolation, since there are no or fewer trigger factors. Only in isolation might they be able to feel completely relaxed if their triggers are from other people. Still, isolation can also cause anxiety for many people with PTSD and they might seek company even though it’s not good company, just to have someone near them. It can create a false sense of security for them, possibly leading to a repetition of the traumatic event. It’s not uncommon for someone with PTSD to subconsciously seek out situations that are triggering, causing them to relive their trauma over and over.
