Why do many companies only employ interns and contract staff?

Most of the companies out there are always in search of interns and people willing to be contract staff and work for an agreed period of time. Most of the time, these companies don’t retain these interns and contract staff members, instead, once the agreed period elapses, they let them go and they put same vacancies out there, yet again. The circle goes on and on. Why is this?

They do that to avoid the risk of having staff on payroll even without any project. Given, the experiences I’ve had with few Construction Consultancies, I have seen their staff let go due to lack of projects and they were permanent staff. You know how it is. People who are on a permanent role are not ready for this sort of stuff. So, employers are in a better situation for handling contract staff, especially in volatile markets.

A lot of companies do this in order not to be committed to any employee. Taking up full time employees require a lot of responsibilities and financial resources to manage, and most companies are not ready to do this. To cut short their outgoing finances, they tend to employ interns and contract staff who equally perform their duties to good length just the way a permanent employee would. These companies don’t mind going through training new intakes every now and then, so far it doesn’t cost them as much as it would if they employed full employees. So, it all boils down to the financial capacity of the company.
