If it is gum pigmentation you are worried about, then it is most probably genetic in nature, due to over stimulation of cells called melanocytes. Its common in Indians due to our genetic composition. It is conversely least in caucasians, an highest in African population. Nothing to worry about, unless its causing cosmetic problems for you, such as a dark gummy smile, for which you can undergo various depigmentation procedures. So, there really is nothing to worry about.

High concentration of melanin or other imbalances in the cell pigmentation can cause your gums to appear dark or black-colored. This condition can occur normally in any human race. The dark color of the gums can be due to genetics, ethnic background, side-effects of certain medications or diseases, or an advanced symptom of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Normally, the dark-colored gums aren’t painful but they have a negative impact on your personality and make it too uncomfortable for you to smile. If the reason behind the problem is due to periodontal disease or gingivitis, then the condition can be quite painful and may require a dental treatment. Smoking cigarettes and some medicines such as antidepressants and procedures such as fillings may also cause gum discoloration.
