Why don’t you try to stay alive with whatever you have first. You simply don’t pay your bills or debts during this period. Focusing on your job search and eating are your primary priorities. Once employed, you can move to pay off the debts.
Take responsibility by calling to inform your bill collectors about your situation. There are a lot of laws that protect you in this matter. They can’t harass you at a new job for example, and they can’t bad-mouth or slander you.
You’d actually be surprised at the way they would be more understanding if you call and let them know what’s going on. Otherwise, from their end of things, it just looks as if a debtor stopped paying for no reason. And while they’re not often patient about it, they’re not stupid. Even though it might not be comfortable, talk to me.
