First off, think about how much physical energy you are exerting each day. You want to go to bed tired and feeling accomplished, so a good workout routine will help, if you don’t already have one. Secondly, your nightly routine should almost be ritual like. Start reducing the amount of stimulation such as TV, phone and tablets. Have a cup of night time tea if that sounds comforting. Try a bit of meditation or just clearing your mind…anything on your mind, I’ve heard writing it down mentally allows you to move past it. Then I personally like to read a book. I don’t last more than 4 or 5 pages before I start dozing off.
Insomnia has many causes. If your regular doctor is unable to discover the underlying problem, seek consultation at a Sleep Center. Common issues are Restless Legs Syndrome, Anxiety/Stress and endocrine problems. Making the effort to discover the cause of your insomnia is well worth the effort. Insomnia is miserable and impacts quality of life and health significantly.
