My bestfriend just got a new man, and while talking about him, I just randomly checked him out on google and I saw that he’s a registered sexual offender. While I’m still contemplating telling her, I’d like to know what you guys think about dating such person.
I trust my friends enough to allow them to run their own lives. I would expect them to have investigated the original charge and made a wise choice. Charges like this are often filed for very valid and deplorable reasons but they are also filed over stupid juvenile mistakes. I would trust my friend to know the difference. And concerning your situation, if I was in your shoes I would tell my friend. And if the positions were reversed I hope she would extend me the same kindness. If she knew going in that she was dating a convicted sex offender, she would not be in my life anymore.
I would never date someone with a sex crime on their record. I know that they might be innocent, or perhaps that they’ve actually reformed, but someone else can date them. I’ve had the shit end of the relationship stick enough that I’m focusing on self-preservation right now, and that doesn’t include exposing myself to potential threats. I don’t think I know any woman, or anyone for that matter, who would date someone with any kind of criminal record.
