Just realize that they are no longer in your life anymore. There is nothing more they could do to hurt you, there is nothing more they could do to help you. They are nothing to you and have no power over you. They are irrelevant now, really. We tend to think we have to get closure from the other person and it is the very thing they are dangling in front of our heads and teasingly not giving it to us. But even if that person did say all the things you wanted to hear, you still would have to find closure from that. Closure is from yourself, and only you have the power to give it to yourself. They have no power over you letting go, all that power belongs to you. Closure is by realizing that they are no longer relevant to your life now. It’s in the past, time to move on and focus on the wonderful people who are in your life.
Meet other people and begin to socialize equally with all. Do not get too attached to any individual until you are sure of yourselves. Letting go of past emotions is comparable to the process of mourning. Death of a relationship has similar psychological implications as death of a person. In fact the former is sometimes more difficult to deal with as social reminders and false hopes keep hurting the person. Therefore, be bold and face it. Cry as much as you feel like, never stop your tears; this would give you tremendous relief. Talk it out to trusted close friends, and ventilate your inner feelings. Gradually over a period of a few weeks to a few months the pain would ease and your smile would come back.
