The idioms.com states that “to walk on eggshells” originates clearly from the imagery. Eggshells are very fragile so it would take great care to walk on them without smashing them. It’s alike to walking on thin ice in reality. Therefore, this phrase came to be used to describe people who you have to be careful around with your words and actions in order not to get them offended, hurt or upset. Stop walking on eggshells. You shouldn’t be taking responsibilities for the feelings of others.
“walking on eggshells” can be said to mean being extremely careful around a person, meaning when you are around that particular person, you have to watch what you say, and how you act. Many of us have at least one person we feel this way about. Until recently, I used to have a man who made me walk on eggshells whenever I’m around him, i just want to always mind the things i say when i’m with him. it honestly can be infuriating as it can cause a person to be stiff and not relax. Relaxation and “walking on eggshells” don’t come together in the same context.
