Ikigai is the happiness of always being busy, both in our professional life and everyday life. It’s the passion and talent we have that gives meaning to our days and drives us to share the best of ourselves with the world. Ikigai is an attitude towards life. Finding flow in everything we do, and remaining active. Taking it slow, and not worrying. Cultivating good habits, including good nutrition. Nurturing good friendships. Living an unhurried life, and exercising daily. Being optimistic and smiling a lot. Reconnecting with nature. Giving thanks, and having resilience.
Ikigai is the highest level of desire, it may be considered to be essentially the processes of cultivating one’s inner potential or that which makes one’s life significant. In relation to Jim Collins “good to great”, ikigai can be understood as knowing one’s purpose and how to go about executing the purpose. According to Jim Collins’ concept of hedgehog which can be likened to the Ikigai, to find true purpose, you have to find that which you are passionate about, that which you’re best at, and that which drives your economic power. Knowing the answers to those three questions is knowing what your ikigai is.
