What do I do if my colleague earn more than I do?

  • 0

I recently found out a colleague of mine earns higher than I earn. We both at the same level at work, it’s kind of disturbing he earns more. What do I do?

You can be the best worker in the place but the least paid if you’re not willing to ask for what you’re worth. I’ve figured out no one is going to automatically pay you what you’re worth, they’re going to pay you as little as they can get away with paying you. Stay calm, ask for what you want. If they’re willing to cut you loose before they increase your pay, don’t burn any bridges. That good reference may be the key to making what you want elsewhere.

Leave your coworker out of it. Once they know that you know his salary, any advantage you have will be lost. Do your research, and figure out what a fair price is for your job in your city. If it’s higher than what you are being paid, it’s not out of line to go to your boss with that data to insist on a raise. However, if you go off half cooked and upset because your coworker makes more than you, you’ll only wind up looking like an ass. Adults create reasoned arguments based on facts. Children whine and complain over a perceived unfairness.
