Often times, it’s always small amounts that get mixed up and sent to unknown accounts, probably because someone has probably messed up the account number or something like that. I have seen cases where that went unnoticed for a very long time, because the people whose money it was, were a bit sloppy with their finances. If that happen to me, I would just do nothing and wait, but not spend it either. But I bet you that an error of large sum would be easily spotted within a few days at the latest.

Most of the time, it’s often an error from the financial institution, and when such happens, it gets reversed after few hours automatically without you having to report. However, if the money doesn’t get reversed, it’s in your own best interest to go to the bank and report it. Of course except you’re indeed expecting some money from someone, that is the only way you can get t spend it, if not, you have no reason spending money that you don’t know who sent it. You’d be surprised that some internet fraudsters even use this style to launder funds, and if that’s the case with you, if can get you in serious trouble. That is why you have to go report before trouble looms.
