Almost everyone experiences itchy eyes from time to time. Most of the time, itchy eyes are caused by some type of allergy. Personally, I get itchy eyes when I use makeup products around my eye area. Makeup gets my eyes irritated such that I start itching almost immediately. An irritating substance such as pollen, dust and animal dander causes the release of compounds called histamines in the tissues around the eyes, which results in itching, redness and swelling.
Lack of moisture, exposure to sun, any type of allergen etc can cause itchy eyes. Try to blink your eyes more often as it restores the eye moisture. Wear sunglasses while travelling outdoor. Itchy eyes can be a symptom of dry and irritated eyes. Itchy eyes can be a factor of dry environments such as heat or wind, overuse of digital screens that can also cause strain, and dry eye symptoms from lack of tear production in the eyes. I use lubricant eye drops to relieve dry and itchy eye irritation.
If the problem persist for too long contact the ophthalmologist.
