Maintaining unhealthy bowel habits, such as rushing to complete bowel movements cause excessive straining and increase pressure on rectal veins.

Sicknesses: Diarrhea or persistent constipation can cause increased pressure and strain on the veins in your anal canal and develop hemorrhoids.

Overweight: Excess body weight in the abdomen or pelvis area cause increase pressure and straining on pelvic veins.

Pregnancy: Females tend to develop hemorrhoids during pregnancy. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause increased pressure on the blood vessels and occasionally develop hemorrhoids. The intense pressure caused by labor may also cause hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are the result of swollen inflamed veins in the anus and rectum. They have the appearance of lumps of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels and tissue including muscle and elastic fibers.
Similar to varicose veins, blood vessels can become unusually swollen in the rectal area. Hemorrhoids can range in size from the size of a raisin to the size of a grape. They can be internal or sometimes protrude through the anus.
