I accidentally saw how someone was killed, I was returning home from my night shift. Someone had been apprehended but it’s not the killer. The killer is still out there. I don’t know what to do, as I don’t want to endanger my own life.
What can I do if I witnessed someone’s murder but another person is being held responsible while the real killer is out there?

If you’re a witness to a murder, it is important that you know you’re very vital to that case. You are the only person that can give the police your full statement whenever they are prepared to take it down. It’s crucial to only tell them what you know and what you can remember. The more details you can provide the better chance they have at solving the investigation and find the persecutor, however, don’t try and add in your own, vague details. Just be as honest and cooperative as you possibly can, seeing as none of this can be used against you. Also, make sure you’re provided full protection, as coming out as a witness to such a crime can be very dangerous, you’d be a target and there will be people wanting you out of the way to cover their tracks.
If you just keep quiet, it can haunt you forever. Coming out to talk can be very dangerous as well, because there will be attempts at your life and maybe people close to you. If you’ve found yourself in this situation, the first thing you should do is confide in the police. Seek for maximum protection for yourself and you’re family. Give your account of what happened, accurate account without mincing your words. If you can, describe the killer so it would help in their search. The tiniest detail matter. Do not go out unnecessarily, lay low and stay safe. You will definitely be a target once you declare yourself as an eyewitness. You might be called on to testify, it depends. In all, seek for protection before you give any account of whatever into is you witnessed.
