You easily enjoy peace and quiet, no obligation to socialise after a long day. Full responsibility for tidiness/mess in the flat. When you clean up, it stays that way for as long as you wish, which increases your motivation to keep things tidy. Weird taste in music? No-one cares, put away those headphones and party! Decorate your flat the way you like it. You only cook when you need to – no kitchen routine. Waking up looking like a potato- messy hair, sleepy eyes, hairy legs, eye-liner smudged all over your face because you couldn’t be bothered to remove it last night, and heading straight to the kitchen/lounge wearing only the old rugged t-shirt you use as your pyjamas. Being able to fully engage in noise producing hobbies such as playing a musical instrument, shouting at video games.
There isn’t nothing compared to living alone; you have your own freedom to do what you wish. I am a singer and I have to practice singing and with a roomie, it gets a bit tough as I get conscious while practicing. You can expand your hobbies and nobody questions you. You don’t really need to adjust with anyone at all. And if you are an introvert and love to spend time with yourself, this is golden. I am a light sleeper and I really don’t need to tell any roomate to keep their voices low. You get to cook as you feel like. There have been cases when I have stayed with vegetarians and have had a hard time eating non-veg food. You can mop, clean, do dusting, laundry and other essential chores per your schedule. You can keep your space decorated and clean as much as you like, you get to design the whole space as you wish. You can call your parents over to stay for a couple of days.
You can avoid unnecessary roomate fights which eventually happens and have peace of mind. However, all these come with a price; you feel lonely at times, especially when you feel too emotional. Well, I usually call up my parents or see some Korean videos. You have to deal with your own shit eventually. It can be a bit costly at times, especially when it’s time to pay bills.
You might feel insecure at times, especially if you are a girl. Falling ill will make you crave companionship. No division of chores. You are the one who has to do everything and it can be a bit taxing, especially on weekends. But all the same, living alone is quite a beautiful experience.
