A dental dam helps prevent the spread of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). If a guy is receiving oral sex, he should wear a condom to prevent the spread of STDs. You can buy dental dams online and at some drugstores. Some sexual health clinics have them available for free.
It’s really difficult to say exactly how safe oral sex is, as it can be hard to find out exactly how a sexually transmitted infection was passed on. But we know that some infections are spread more easily through oral sex than others. The STIs most commonly passed on through oral sex are Herpes simplex, gonorrhoea and syphilis. It’s also possible for HIV to be transmitted during oral sex, although the risk is much less than with vaginal or anal sex. Dams are a great way to enjoy oral sex while minimising the risk of passing on or getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) so give them a go.
