They are called burner phones in the sense that you do not have the obligation to register your identity when you purchase one. The phones inherit their characteristic of being untraceable by the fact that do not connect to any cellular network whatsoever. In this way, neither the network operator that provides the link to the phone generating the call, nor the operator providing the link to the phone receiving the call, are aware of the fact that a call is taking place, neither will the source operator is aware of where the call is directed, nor the receiving operator is aware of where the call is sourced.

Burner phones are often used in crime dramas, burner phones have a multitude of uses – and some are more shady than others. Typically a cheap and disposable mobile phone, they are used by people who don’t want to be traced. Here’s all you need to know. A “burner phone” is a cheap, prepaid mobile phone that you can destroy or discard when you no longer need it. In popular media, criminals often use burner phones to evade detection by authorities. You might use a burner phone for privacy reasons, as a last resort, or during an emergency. You might use a burner phone or a SIM to protect your identity. If you can manage to procure a handset or SIM card that isn’t linked to your real-world identity, you can use the number without the risk of being identified.
