Water baptism is not a pre-requisite to gain in salvation in Christ Jesus. Am I baptised? No. Do I consider myself saved? Yes. It really goes beyond water baptism, it’s the confession that comes from the heart that matters. Taking for example the thief on the cross, by the right hand of Jesus Christ. Dude wasn’t baptised, but he was truly and deeply sorry for us sins and he begged Jesus that he should welcome him into his father’s kingdom. And guess what? He was saved. Just like that. How much more of us? Apple of God’s eyes. Now, I’m not trying to wave away the importance of baptism because in it truest form, it is quite important but it is not a prerequisite for salvation. I see it as the “extra cherry”.
Baptism is very important. Jesus said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved”. Baptism is from the Greek word “Baptizo”, meaning to be completely immersed in water. Now, the essence of baptism is that it marks one’s final separation from the world, and a transition into the new world of Christ. In the book of acts, it is noted that everyone that got saved was immediately baptised. That shows how important it is. Baptism is not an option when it comes to salvation, it is an important aspect of salvation in Christ Jesus.
