I once rode in a Uber and the driver asked if he could pick his daughter even while the ride was still on. I found it totally weird and unprofessional but I obliged.

Oh my god! Never let that happen to you again. That was so dangerous and totally risky. The person he picked up could’ve been anyone, your safety is paramount and that’s probably why you’re using an Uber in the first place. You should report such driver.
It’s against Uber policy and so unprofessional.
You are requesting a car service to drive you from one place to another. If you get into a car with someone upfront with the driver already, or someone joining half way into the ride, it would be very disconcerting. Who is that person? Am I safe with this other person? Uber drivers are vetted with background checks, but has this person been vetted? Is the driver going to be distracted with this other person? So many questions that you most likely won’t have answers to.
