It depends on the drug. However, it’s common for alcohol to interact with medications, causing them to become less effective or make side effects worse. It affects certain medication. I was on antibiotics a few years ago and decided to go out and drink alcohol. I didn’t leave the toilet the next day.
The major reason they say never to mix any drugs and alcohol is that it is a game of Russian roulette. There is no prediction of how any drug and alcohol will interact. One time you might feel euphoric the next time, it might make you sleepy and impairing your respiration and kill you, depending on the type of drug. Mixing drugs and alcohol can also in some cases decrease the effectiveness of the medications.
