Is it often awkward for straight actors to play roles that require them to be attracted to the same sex as them?

Why is this even a question when it comes to acting? A gay actor can play a straight role and vice versa. They are acting. Neil Patrick Harris is awesome but how many of his roles are to portray a gay person compared to straight? This is like the definition of acting. You can not act a different race than what you are, that’s physical appearance. You can act like a straight or gay person even if you are not. That’s just acting.
No, it’s not weird or awkward. They’re actors. Actors should be able to play whatever role that’s why they’re called actors. Actors are supposed to pretend to be someone they are not. In some cases this might also mean they play a sexual orientation that they are not. The whole point of acting is to play some make-believe character. If it is believable, then mission accomplished.
