There are many exes that wouldn’t return your keys back to you even if you asked, so the option is always to change the locks. If you broke up with someone, the only sane thing to do is to mail their keys back to them if you can’t deliver it in person. It’s their house, their private place, so if you don’t have access to their lives again, you shouldn’t hold on to their house keys they trusted you with. Tell your landlord what’s going on and ask them to change the locks. The type of person that would mail their ex’s back their house keys is the type of person that would break into an ex house and become the obsessive ex.
What you need to do is to change the locks of your house. Although, there are some apartments that would require you to go through the landlord or the agent before you change the locks of your house. If you decide to collect your keys back from your ex, Then you should already know that you can’t just getting to your house one day and see some of your items missing. So the best bet is to change the locks of your apartment whenever you break up with someone to avoid stories that touch.
