Asthmatic patients scare away from perfumes and sprays only if they are very allergic to one of the ingredients. I am allergic to flowers. So any floral scent in anything I come into contact with makes me itch. Scented soaps, scented makeup, etc. It drove me up a wall until I was tested for allergies and found out that I’m not allergic to soap per say, just to the damn fragrances they put in nearly all soaps, laundry detergents and cleaning supplies.
If you know you are allergic to a specific category of plants, you would avoid perfumes from that species. ie, if you are allergic to roses, avoid perfumes heavy in rose. Beyond that, the only way to test is by experiencing a specific fragrance. Rather than spraying it on you skin or spray on a tissue and inhale for several minutes. If there are not adverse results, you’re good to go. If there is one, dispose of the tissue in a sealed container to get away from the fragrant molecules.
