Some brands stopped using plus size models because there were complaints that they were promoting obesity and encouraging people to be over weight. But that’s just some bull talk really, I really just think it’s all about marketing. There’s a general trend in brands that use plus size models, this is because these specific brands are targeting women whose weight is slightly above average. I don’t really think it’s glorified, it’s just about what type of audience you are trying to advertise to.
Plus size fashion has moved mountains since it’s almost non-existent beginnings. There are now far more options for plus size women and these options are both fashionable and affordable. In the past it was a never-ending search to the back of the store, shuffling through over-sized t-shirts that lacked design and shape. Women of varying proportions are now seen all throughout media – film and television included. I can testify that modelling clothes for brands has really changed gear from what used to be the usual. Consumers want to see models their own size in a range of different clothing, and a lot of brands are striving to make this really happen
