Compensating organ donors has more downsides to it than positive. It encourages the stealing of organs. If a rich person is willing to pay enough there is someone out there willing enough to forcefully take someone seriously organs just to get that money. Also, it changes the priorities of who would be getting the organs. Ask yourself if a rich old alcoholic guy or a small, young, innocent girl whose family doesn’t have a lot of money should need a kidney transplant. The old guy has a lot of money so he would probably get the organ before the young girl when you can pretty objectively say that the girl should get it over the old guy.
Organ donors are not always compensated because the organ donors usually die. If people are paid for their organs, people would be killed for their organs. It’s like putting a bounty on killing for trade in human parts. If you voluntarily donate a kidney, you will probably not have to pay the medical bills for the procedure. Perhaps the recipient will offer you some money, but only for an organ you can live without. You can’t voluntarily donate a heart, for instance. You can’t live without that one. You can sign an organ donor card voluntarily before death, but only in the event of your brain death. If not signed, no one can just take your organs.
