Instead of social networking try something new, like gyming, dancing, learn new language, learn new instrument to play, joint basketball. Activities like such will add value to your life, like dancing can help you be for, learning new language like e.g. Spanish can help you somewhere in your career. And don’t think you will lose things like friends and family from life if you reduce your social presence. Calling a friend and talking with them is far better than clicking a like button, commenting on post. Call a friend instead of facebook and they will tell you what’s going in the world. Take back control of your life and reducing social networking presence will give help you.
Most websites have a way to deactivate your account so you can step away for a while without completely deleting everything.
As far as feeling better – you’ll have to try and see! I think it’s good to periodically decrease or stop activity on social media just to keep some balance in your life. It’s great to have these sites for resources but they shouldn’t consume all your time and be your only source of connection with the world. You should not go to any extreme in life. Maintain a balance in your life be it social media or fun. Half an hour daily is sufficient to check notifications, view others posts and comment or like them. So why to delete a thing that you can use positively as well by working on it objectively.
