When you start an antibiotic and stop midway, sometimes these bacteria can become resistant to the antibiotics because you did not complete the prescription, which is why some drugs that worked for you some times back may not work well for you again. People have died as a result of drug resistance, using antibiotics the right way helps protect ourselves.
At one point or the other, we’ve all been prescribed antibiotics. A lot of us use them when the illness is at its worst, but stop when we start to feel better. This act has potential to do more harm than good in the long run. Antibiotics work by either killing or limiting the bacteria and when we don’t complete the antibiotics, we stop the good work that the antibiotics do. Even if the symptoms go away, the bacteria may still be present in your body. If you stop treatment before the antibiotic cycle is over, the remaining bacteria can continue to multiply.
