Everyone knows the Lie detector machine is highly inaccurate. The point of the test is not to catch you lying with the test, but to scare you into telling the truth. If, for example, on a job application you said that you never did drugs when in actuality you used to smoke weed, they are hoping that they can scare you into admitting the truth on the lie detector. This is why you must remember that you have two options when you’re subjected to a lie detector: be totally honest or be a perfect liar.
The problem is they actually don’t detect lies. They detect agitation when answering questions. This can be due to lying, or can be due to you being afraid or nervous because you’re being interrogated. Because the results that you get when the device is used properly do not confirm someone was lying, the results are can be argued to be invalid.
