I recently read online that a man who attempted suicide but failed was arraigned and taken to court. Kindly explain how this works if you have knowledge about it.

Suicide is listed as a criminal offense not for the the offender but for anybody that may have assisted or been complicit in some way. I do not know of anybody that as lived through a suicide attempt that has been prosecuted. But many have been prosecuted for assisting. Remember Dr. Kevorkian, a.k.a. Dr Death?
Committing suicide is not against the law. Well, at least not in most first world countries. Simply because there is no way to prosecute or to convict a dead body. However, suicidal attempts are usually treated as a form of mental illness. They are often sent to a psychiatric hospital or institution, for a 72 hour evaluation, for example, even if it is against his or her consent.
