My girlfriend wouldn’t go to the hospital for proper advice on birth control, she insists on using salt water. What does salt water do? I don’t want a child yet.

You can remove the excess sperm in the vagina, with warm water. However warm water will not reach the uterus or fallopian tubes. And even if water could somehow get there, it wouldn’t be enough. If just 3 single sperm cells reach the egg, a fertilisation can happen. And in one ejaculation there are thousands of sperm cells.
If water and salt could prevent pregnancy. We would either have a lot frewer humans in the world and women would have more control over their lives or water and salt would be illegal to own. The only things that work are; using a barrier: condom, femidom, using hormones: the pill, p-ring or p-staff and Copper IUD.
No, salt and water can’t prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sex. I don’t even understand how you could possibly think it could? But it can’t anyway. Only contraceptives can protect against pregnancy if used within the first three days after unprotected sex, a morning after pill may prevent a pregnancy but even that’s not guaranteed either. Seek medical advice if you’re in need of one. And whilst you’re there, ask for contraceptive advice and some reliable sex education so you know how your body actually works.
