  1. Race just like many other things like gender annotations are mere constructs of the society. The society says it’s X, then it’s X. If it says it’s Y, then it’s Y. Race is a mere social construct because no one has black gene or white gene, genes are simply genes without alluring to a particular to a special person or people. The society made white, brown, and black people. It’s all the society.

  2. Well skin colour does matter somewhat to social constructionists. They will say even if skin colour isn’t a real biological marker of race that despite this it’s what our social constructions latch onto. In other words people belong to their racial group not because of some biological marker like skin colour but because of the collective belief that some biological marker like skin colour is determinant of some important category of a person.
