Those that feel the need to manipulate already have an internal issue of some sort, as they feel they have no control over their own lives. So they feel the need to try and control others in order to have some sense of control at all.
Genuine self esteem would not feel any need to leach off of others. As it comes from within.
People who externalise their esteem locus are the only ones that feel the need to manipulate others in order to feel better about themselves.
It is all about the psychological locus of control. Some have an internal locus of control. Which mens they believe they are in full control of their lives. Some have an external locus of control. Which means they believe they have no control over their lives. And some have a variable locus of control. Which means they differentiate between what they can, and can’t, control about their own lives.
Individuals with high self-esteem and those with low self esteem will find a way to manipulate if that’s their intention. The tactic maybe different though. The high self-esteemed person will use their confidence to steer people in to a certain direction that serves them. They can dominate a situation to give the illusion of power and have their way, or create fear among people if they wish to create a following. On the other hand, the low self-esteem person may use a soft voice, self-pity, submissive tactics, sweet compliance and acceptance to make people listen or sympathize with them.
