That really depends on you, if you want to save money. For me, I would check and make sure the thing is safe before leaving it on all day. And make sure there’s nothing flammable near the heater. I’ll leave mine on when I’m gone if it’s going to be cold and stay that way for a while. If you just needed night, turn it off in the daytime to save electricity and then come back and turn it on at night. Just be sure to do a safety check because I have heard of these thing shorting out causing a fire from things being too close to it it can burn. That’s the biggest thing for me.
If you’re going to be gone for several hours, instead of turning the system completely off, the Department of Energy recommends turning your heat down by seven to 10 degrees. They also suggest doing this at night, using blankets to make up the difference in temperature. So, if you keep your heat set on 68, you’ll want to lower it to 58 to 61 degrees, and doing so will make an impressive dent in your heating bill.
