Of course yes. I say follow your passion even if you don’t ever get into a professional company! There are so many other opportunities in the dance world besides classical ballet. Follow your dream and you never know what will come your way. Wherever you go with this, there are some things to keep in mind to better your chances.
Finding an outstanding school is absolutely crucial for success. Research the teachers and the school. If they do gymnastics, hip hop, tap for tots type of classes and competitions, probably not a serious school. This is mostly the type of school that is not in business to train students for professional careers in Ballet. Many schools are in it for the business not the art. If there is a professional company in your city, that is good place to start looking for the best training.
It really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter because a person who is passionate enough about dance to make this happen as a career has no other choice whether it’s a good idea or not. They only know this one dream and it keeps them moving forward. Dancers dance. They aren’t in it to get rich or famous or have a stable quiet life. They do it because dancers dance and if someone had ever told me growing up that my dream was silly I never would have heard it. It didn’t matter what anyone else thought, if my dream was to be a dancer and there was no reason to question it.
