I got a mail from the office that rejected me asking me to reapply for the same role over again
I was rejected at a job interview but got a mail to reapply, why did they reject me in the first place?

Must be some error on the part of the company or recruitment team, if you got rejected and are considered again for the job, I see no reason why you should be asked to reapply.
Hmm this is tricky, usually recruitment officers or recruitment teams often take their time making a decision and a rejection is not something so trival that it should be a mistake. It could be that the job position went out of market for a while but when it came back you were asked to reapply.
