Going through the reviews I read online, I told myself I won’t see the four parts true life movie. I guess I’m mentally prepared to see through the whole four parts now, will be more prepared if y’all tell me how it is. I don’t mind spoilers🙈

This mini-series was brilliant, thought-provoking and heart-wrenching all at once as it showcases incidents that took place from April of 1989. The cast did a phenomenal job reenacting the lives of all the defendants and did a fantastic job highlighting racism, stereotypes, neglect and vulnerability. Each episode it took some time to take in and process all types of emotions from hurt to disbelief. I would recommend this TV series to everyone to not simply honour the five but also to become more aware of how politics and power can break even the justice system.
I’ve been watching the series on an off and after a very long time, I can finally say I’m done. It’s a lot to take in. I’m horrified for sure, but not with disbelief. This is my hometown. I know things like this happened. I’m horrified that people could be so ugly to each other as to convict children in their desperation to get results. I’m horrified by the singleminded devotion to justice for only one subset of the entire NYC population. Most of all, I’m horrified by the brutality of the systems at play here when they are working as they were designed to. I have not been able to finish the series yet, as many parts of it actually make me physically ill. What was done to those boys was unconscionable.
