HOW TO PREPARE A GOOD CV
Most people do not understand what a good CV is talk less of what it entails. CV means Curriculum Vitae. It is that document that is designed in order to actively seek employment. This means that it is a document containing your personal information which includes your name, address, email, your phone number, your educational background which includes your secondary and tertiary education.
Your CV must also include any previous work that you must have had, your skills that must be useful to the job you seek and your relevant hobbies, it may or may not contain referees which will stand as guarantors for you.
A good CV has to have clarity and contain only necessary and useful information, Data that is not needed like sleeping as an hobby should not be added to a CV. Adding unnecessary data to your CV can make the HR of the Company you seek employment in be disinterested in your CV. A good CV must be well spaced and attractive making the reader quite interested in reading it. The fonts used must be legible and should not be ambiguous or too decorative making the reader not understand what the writer is trying to convey. Capitalization and Punctuations should be appropriately used and not over used.
At the beginning of the CV, the applicants name must be made in full followed by the house address, email address, phone number and any other useful information. Important social media information such as linkedin can as well be used as this is a business platform. Photograph of the applicant may and may not be needed depending on the applicant, the job description and the organization in which the applicant is applying to.
After then comes educational qualification, secondary school and tertiary education qualifications must be given including the names of the school, year of entry and the year of graduation, the grades in which the applicant graduated from in both schools and any other notable achievement from either schools.
Following this is any work experience whatsoever that the applicant must have attained at one point or the other. It could be as writing articles for a local newspaper to as much as working in an oil firm. It might not necessarily have any relation with the job description of the present organization the applicant is applying for but then shows that the applicant knows how to work in a contained environment.
Subsequently, comes the useful skills, achievements and hobbies that the applicant has. Skills might come in form of computer literacy and being proficient in certain applications like Microsoft excel. Skills could ask be having interrelationship skills or having good team managements. Achievements could include participating in certain competitions or writing award winning essays.
Hobbies here listed has to be useful and sensible. Sleeping might be a hobby but it cannot be considered as useful unlike writing or swimming.
In conclusion, a good CV must be quite attractive so as to entice the reader to keep on reading and should be error free. Fonts used must be attractive and legible. Tabs must be neat and orderly. It is also standard procedure that a CV must be one page. CVs are normally attached with a cover letter for the organization. Please also ensure while submitting a CV, it should be put in an envelope and not submitted plainly as this gives a neat finish and a good impression.
