Gaslighting is the act of manipulating a person by forcing them to question their own thoughts, memories and events occurring around them. Gaslighting could e difficult to spot, especially if it’s in the heat of an argument or if you’re close to the person. But you can improving at identifying this manipulative tactic by understanding how gas-lighters operate.
Gaslighting is not simply a disagreement or difference in perception of reality. It is a pattern of undermining and question another’s reality. Gaslighting is a technique people use to feel more in control, those who gaslight may feel insecure and anxious, leading them to need to feel right and in control. It can be seen as a mode of survival, and many times, people who gaslight don’t even realise there doing that.
