  1. For the most part you cannot totally correct astigmatism. The non spherical shape of the cornea causing astigmatism is a physical feature. In order to cure this the shape of the cornea would have to be altered or a compensatory change in the lens in the eye would have to be introduced, only available with implantation of toric intraocular lenses. Orthokeratology where hard contact lenses worn for periods of time to physically change the shape of the cornea are another temporary and somewhat controversial method of treating astigmatism without glasses.
