The truth is, you never may know someone is a narc until some certain circumstances poke you to dig. This is because, narcissists wear a mask all the time, making it difficult for you to know their true nature.
To expose a narcissist, you could try to provoke a situation which would trigger narcissistic rage, by embarrassing the narcissist. You could do this by providing evidence of their having done something wrong or stupid. It’s really difficult to think of a situation where this would be s good idea. Perhaps in a custody situation in court. Other than that, you’re almost certainly better off just letting it go. Narcissists are extremely dangerous. They have no moral compass. They could easily react in a dangerous way to you or your family if provoked. Even if they are not violent themselves, they may know people who are. You don’t want to get involved in a fight with a narcissist.
The only way to unmasked a narcissist is to ask more open questions. If they give you silly answers or ramble on with but then you have exposed them. Most will get angry or they will make excuses to leave without reason. Sometimes they may display a calm and cool demeanour but when they get rattled by someone then the truth is out. Just listen to them when they start to boast about their achievements and helping others who were less fortunate.
