You will know a narc is imitating feelings when they start showing care in a way that they usually don’t. I mean, all a narcissist care about is himself, so it’s always so pretty odd when he or she starts showing care and support in a weird way. A narc will only show support if who or that which they’re supporting will be of great benefit to them, if it won’t benefit them, a narc won’t be bothered.
Just like you put in your post, “imitate”. If you already know who a narcissist is, you’ve already unmasked everything about them and nothing they do should surprise you anymore. All a narc cares about is themself, no other person. So if a narc is showing compassion or empathy, you already know they’re just trying to mimic such feeling, a narcissist does not empathize, neither do they show feelings that normal human beings show.
